Students
See Portraiture Come To Life
On Monday, May 21st, students at Kansas City's Derrick Thomas Academy got
a treat as classical painter David C. Hancock visited to give portrait drawing
demonstrations to students.
Students watched as Hancock created charcoal drawings of nine of their classmates,
each in twenty minute sittings, as he explained to them the traditional techniques
of portrait drawing. In the question and feedback session following, students
expressed that they learned a lot, and were motivated to not only continue
to draw, but to pursue their dreams.
“Arts education is important” says Hancock, whose portrait commissions
include Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor and pop star Jessica Simpson. “Not
only does art education help students to draw better, but teaches students to
add value to our world.”
